A Negotiation-Based Resource Management Framework for Dynamic QOS Control Kiyokuni KAWACHIYA
نویسنده
چکیده
To change the quality of service (QOS) of a continuous-media processing dynamically according to the system environment, a new resource management model is needed that supports resource negotiation between the application and the system by combining resource reservation and adaptation. Realization of such a model will require the solution of several problems, such as how to specify requests for mutually related multiple resources and for discrete QOS-controllable points, and how to allocate and calibrate resources to satisfy the speci cation. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a new resource management model that allows resource allocation and QOS adjustment over multiple continuous-media applications. In this model, each application can request or calibrate resources through an integrated abstraction named a \Resource-Ticket."

Dynamic QoS Control Based on the QoS-Ticket Model
The most notable characteristic of continuous-media data is the existence of timing constraints. To handle such data appropriately, some system support for resource management and QOS control is indispensable. For this reason, we are proposing a “QOS-Ticket” model, which combines resource reservation and adaptation. The QOSTicket model has been implemented on RT-Mach. In this prototype, a new t...
متن کاملQ-Thread: A New Execution Model for Dynamic QOS Control of Continuous-Media Processing
One characteristic of continuous media is that they should be processed both continuously and periodically. Although \periodic execution models" are suitable for such processing, most existing periodic models do not take account of resource reservation and adaptation (QOS control) in themselves, and such resource management must be performed through some external mechanism. In this paper, we pr...
متن کاملQOS-Ticket: A New Resource-Management Mechanism for Dynamic QOS Control of Multimedia Kiyokuni KAWACHIYA
In an interactive multimedia environment that handles multiple sessions dynamically, a mechanism for controlling the QOS among sessions is very important. It is, however, di cult to achieve such QOS control without any system support. A new resourcemanagement mechanism and QOS-control architecture for multimedia applications are needed. This paper rst discusses features required for such archit...
متن کاملA New Approach for Estimating Per-Transaction-Type Resource Consumption
In a middleware environment, various types of transactions are processed simultaneously. In such an environment, it is very important to know the amount of resources necessary for processing each type of transaction. Such data can be used both for resource planning and bottleneck identification. This report proposes a new approach to estimate the per-transaction-type resource consumption in a r...

Mission-critical multimedia applications such m advanced command and control are dynamic and criticality driven. Taking into consideration of the application criticality as well as media quality-ofsewice (QoS} ar$ timing requirements, we develop a multiresource management system that enables criticality-based resource preemption and QoS-based dynamic resource negotiation and adaptation. Our pee...
